Are Remote Control Cars a Thing of the Past?

Written on 23 May 2013 by

For years, millions of children have eagerly anticipated the arrival of their remote-controlled car on Christmas Day. Some adults also consider remote-controlled cars to be one of their most fun hobbies. There have been many nifty inventions that have come and gone, but radio-controlled cars are here for the long haul. There are a variety of R/C cars on the market to satisfy everyone's needs. There are even specially-made racetracks that enable enthusiasts to compete against other R/C racers.

The innovation of radio-controlled vehicles has increased dramatically over the years. Once just a simple toy, R/C cars can now do some pretty impressive maneuvers. Some can even be controlled by a cell-phone. A person can literally control their R/C car from several miles away. Some remote-controlled helicopters and planes are equipped with cameras to take aerial pictures of the surrounding area.

Remote-control cars give the entire family a chance to have some fun together. Whether spinning through the mud or racing around the park, these machines promise to leave you with a smile on your face. The remote-controlled car has definitely withstood the test of time.

The Turtles Are Back! Go Green Machine!

Written on 27 February 2013 by

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are something that never entirely go out of style. Beginning life as a modest underground comic, they soon found their way into our homes in the 80s.

There were Turtle action figures, Turtle snack foods, Turtle inspired foods, Turtle movies, Turtle video games, Turtle clothes and so much more. It was a marketing and merchandising dream come true - and an everlasting nightmare to parents everywhere.

Then, as with a lot of things, the Turtles went out of style and it became very hard to track them down. They were no longer cluttering our store shelves and the kids just weren't interested.

Fast forward to today and it seems the Turtles are back. Finding a new home on Nickelodeon, the self-proclaimed 1 Kids' Network wasted no time in flexing their marketing muscles. If you have any decent cable provider or found your service through cabletelevision.net, then you've probably seen it or heard your kids singing along.

You really can't walk into any toy store now without seeing them. The paint and the colors and the logo might have all been updated, but the Turtles remain, for the most part, relatively unchanged. Adults who grew up with the Turtles merchandising craze are now having to deal with this to a whole new generation of Turtle fans.

It's almost like witnessing true karma in a lot of ways.

What Happened to Action Figures? Changes in the Modern Toy

Written on 24 July 2012 by

Once upon a time, action figures used to be some of the highest selling toys for children. Parents would have to wait in lines to purchase the hottest superhero figurine. Today, though, action figures seem to be a thing of the past. It is rare to see children over the age of 6 carrying around action figures anymore. Times have changed, technology has advanced, and children no longer are amused by play with figurines. Children no longer have the patience that their parents used to have while growing up. Today, everything has to be fast, loud and electronic in order for a child to enjoy it. It is a shame to see the road today's young generation is traveling down. Children would rather play a video game over playing with action figures against their friends. No longer do children use their imaginations like they used to either. Instead of imagination, children have focused their minds on strategy. The strategies they come up with help them to beat the next level on whatever game they may be playing. It is no surprise that action figures are fading away. With video games filled with excitement, children make the obvious choice over the action figures.
